Auburn's Defensive Coordinator Search: Zach Arnett Emerges as a Top Candidate
Mississippi State's Former Head Coach Among SEC-Experienced Aspirants
Auburn University's search for a new defensive coordinator has taken a significant turn with the emergence of Zach Arnett as a front-runner for the position. Arnett, a former head coach at Mississippi State, brings a wealth of experience in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), making him an appealing option for the Tigers.
Arnett's SEC Pedigree
Arnett's career spans nearly a decade in the SEC, beginning as a graduate assistant at San Diego State from 2011 to 2013. He subsequently held coaching positions at Louisville and Kentucky before becoming Mississippi State's defensive coordinator in 2018.
Under Arnett's leadership, Mississippi State's defense consistently ranked among the top in the SEC. In 2019, the Bulldogs led the conference in total defense and ranked second in scoring defense. Arnett's ability to develop and implement successful defensive schemes has caught the attention of Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze.
While Arnett has no direct connection to Auburn, his relationship with Athletic Director John Cohen could prove influential. Cohen was previously Mississippi State's athletic director and is likely familiar with Arnett's work.
