Ryan Garcia, the undefeated American professional boxer, suffered his first career loss on Saturday night in a close fight against Gervonta "Tank" Davis.
Garcia, who held the WBC interim lightweight title in 2021, was knocked down in the eighth round of the fight and was unable to continue. Davis retained his WBA lightweight title with the win.
Garcia, known for his social media presence with 37 million Instagram followers, thanked his supporters for their encouragement after the fight.
He said, "I want to thank everyone for their support tonight. This was a tough opponent who hit pretty hard, but we sniped the shot. My first fight under Garcia Promotions. It was a battle yesterday. I got to make some changes and come back strong. I want to thank everyone supporting me along this journey of boxing and life. I'm Blessed. Back to the drawing board. We will rise back up."
