Powerful Earthquake Shakes Los Angeles

Light Earthquake Felt in Southern California

A light 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck in Southern California on Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake, which was followed two minutes later by a 2.1-magnitude aftershock, was felt as far away as San Diego and Las Vegas.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located near the city of El Sereno, about 10 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The earthquake caused shaking for several seconds, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The USGS has issued a yellow shake alert for the Los Angeles area, indicating that there is a potential for significant shaking in the coming hours or days. Residents are advised to be prepared for aftershocks and to follow the instructions of local authorities.

This earthquake is the latest in a series of recent seismic events in California and Nevada. In the past month, there have been at least eight earthquakes with a magnitude of 3.0 or greater in the region.
