Powerful Tremors Strike Turkey and Greece

Series of Earthquakes Raises Concerns

In the past 24 hours, two earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.9 or greater have struck the Aegean Sea, raising concerns about seismic activity in the region. This follows six earthquakes that have occurred in the past seven days, making it a period of heightened seismic activity.

The latest quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.9, hit off Turkey's Aegean coast and north of the Greek island of Samos. It was felt across western Turkey and the Greek islands, causing residents to evacuate their homes. The earthquake was followed by several aftershocks, with the largest measuring 4.5.

In a nearby incident, a powerful earthquake shook beach resorts in Greece and Turkey on Friday, killing two tourists. The 6.7-magnitude quake struck off the island of Kos and was felt across the Aegean Sea. It caused significant damage to buildings and infrastructure, and prompted authorities to issue a tsunami warning.

The series of earthquakes has raised concerns about the possibility of a larger earthquake in the region. Seismologists are monitoring the situation closely and are urging residents to be prepared for further tremors.
